Over the three-day event families can hop on board steam and heritage diesel trains and relive the amazing spirit and camaraderie of World War II, whilst enjoying various war-themed entertainment and vehicle displays at stations along the iconic North Yorkshire Moors Railway line. Each station will be transformed to create a variety of scenarios and performances including a wartime street, ‘The Sidings’, at Pickering, Home Guard demonstrations at Goathland and RAF themed Grosmont, with a replica mk9 Spitfire. Levisham will once again be transformed into the German-occupied French village of Le Visham with re-enactment displays and Café Allée du Bois. At RAF Grosmont, visitors will have the chance to experience a plotting room, where the RAF monitor and track the enemy and a dispersal hut. There will also be a farewell tour of ‘Company B’ theatre group. Not only that, Pickering will have live performances from international cabaret artist, Paul Harper and NEW for 2017 ‘The Voice of Vintage’ plus much more. Ampleforth College Big Band will also play a repertoire of music from the 1930s and 1940s at Pickering station on the Sunday afternoon. In honour of those who fought tirelessly to ensure our freedom today, there will be wreath-laying ceremonies at Pickering and Grosmont stations. The railway will also be launching the Dame Vera Lynn appeal over the wartime event. Help us return back to traffic 3672 Dame Vera Lynn so visitors can enjoy the sight and sound of a genuine wartime locomotive! nymr.co.uk/appeal/3672-dame-vera-lynn For regular news, updates and competitions, North Yorkshire Moors Railway is also on Facebook facebook.com/northyorkshiremoorsrailway/ and Twitter twitter.com/nymr

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates steam trains along an 18 mile line between the market town of Pickering and the village of Grosmont, through the heart of the North York Moors National Park. We are also operating trains to Whitby on certain days of the year. The railway passes through a variety of scenery, from wooded valley to heather clad moorland. It also calls at picturesque villages along the way and offers access to unspoilt countryside and the sea for walkers and cyclists.
