For those who need a gentler pace there are the more usual and always entertaining giant marrows, the placid and soft-eyed alpacas, flowers and vegetables, cakes, teas, the steam engine, the Northumberland sheep dog trial and the Book Fair (though we do a good line in blood-curdling thrillers). Whalton Village Show combines the traditional fruit, flower and vegetable show with all the trappings of a great family day out in Northumberland. There is always something to do, something to watch, something to laugh at and lots to eat and drink. Bring your dog and enter the Dog Show. Bring your best flowers and vegetables and see how they measure up. Been watching Bake-off? Then bring your best scones, gingerbread or jars of lemon curd (if its good enough for Mary Berry...)
